0. NARRATIVE FORMULATION

“How the event appears to the listener when the information is integrated as a unity.”

1. DEFINITION

The phenomenology of the event describes the perceptual attributions and outcomes through which the listener recognises apparent material quality, perceived generating gesture, dynamics, source, distance, space, movement and continuity in stereophonic reproduction. In what follows, in accordance with the controlled vocabulary of the theory, apparent material quality and perceived generating gesture may also be referred to in the abbreviated forms matter and gesture.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

These expressions do not designate autonomous physical quantities, independent components of the pattern or sufficient metrics of fidelity. The entry does not replace physical description and does not automatically attribute a cause to every impression. It connects listening language to possible structural relationships while keeping observation, perceptual evidence, physical correlate and directional attribution distinct. A single relationship may contribute to several perceptual attributions, and each attribution may depend on the integration of several convergent relationships.

3. RELATIONSHIPS AND OPERATING CONDITIONS

4. PERCEPTUAL TRANSLATION

The phenomenology may include descriptions such as presence, naturalness, transparency, focus, immersion and disappearance of the loudspeakers. These terms must be defined in context and not used as universal synonyms for fidelity. Presence, in particular, constitutes an integrated phenomenological outcome and not an independent attribute added to the others.

5. MEASUREMENT, EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

Informal observations generate hypotheses. Controlled tests establish discriminability. Manipulations and measurements characterise mechanisms. Preference remains an outcome distinct from closer adherence to the properly made stereophonic recording adopted as the reference.

6. TRANSLATION WITHIN THE AURORA Electron Devices® TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC FRAMEWORK

Within the 'AURORA' framework, phenomenology is used as a language of connection between technical research, listening and setup. The process begins with the actual chain and the configuration under examination, while performance statements must remain proportionate to the evidence available.

7. OPERATIONAL SUMMARY

Phenomenology of the event = an organised description of perceptual attributions and outcomes, useful as an interpretive bridge but not as a substitute for evidence.
