0. NARRATIVE FORMULATION

1. DEFINITION

Structural neutrality denotes the design objective of containing electrical, magnetic, dielectric, mechanical and acoustic contributions of the apparatus that may alter the representation of the pattern in a structurally relevant manner.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

It does not imply the physical absence of transformation, noise, distortion or interaction. Every apparatus transforms and has limits. Structural neutrality is an interpretative and design criterion within the Lexicon, relative to conditions, tolerances and descriptors, and must be distinguished from timbral neutrality understood merely as spectral balance. It does not constitute automatic certification of pattern conservation.

Within listening language it may correspond to transparency, variation between recordings, reduced recurring colouration and lower perceptual dominance of the system. These indications are suggestive, not demonstrative.

5. MEASUREMENT, EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

Structural neutrality requires a set of assessments and cannot be certified by a single measurement. Variation of the result across recordings, levels and loads is informative. Conclusions must distinguish supported neutrality, non-equivalence and an inconclusive result.

6. TRANSLATION WITHIN THE AURORA Electron Devices® TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC FRAMEWORK

The principles now formalised in the theory are consistent with the structural neutrality pursued within the 'AURORA' technical-scientific framework for apparatus, sound-radiation systems, interconnections and wiring. Technologies and topologies may differ among projects; continuity lies in the objective of limiting arbitrarily induced sonic characterisations, not in uniformity of solutions.

7. OPERATIONAL SUMMARY

Structural neutrality = objective of not imposing a dominant organisation of one’s own; not a promise of an absolute absence of deviations.
