0. NARRATIVE FORMULATION

1. DEFINITION

Within the Lexicon, time is the domain in which the relations of onset, duration, succession, delay, decay, recovery and history dependence that organise the representation of the pattern are described.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

The theory considers time across every domain: digital data, electrical signals, mechanical motion and acoustic pressures. A spectral response may appear favourable while dispersion, ringing, recovery or temporal instability alter pertinent relations.

Within listening language, “speed”, “rhythm”, “articulation” and “continuity of gesture” may refer to several temporal and dynamic relations. They are not synonyms for a single measurement, nor do they necessarily imply higher fidelity.

Assessment may include impulse response, step response, decays, time–frequency analysis, group delay, burst response, complex transients and history-dependent protocols. Windows and levels must be appropriate to the phenomenon.
