1. DEFINITION

Energy is the physical quantity that makes the transformations of the chain possible. Within the electroacoustic system it is stored, transferred, converted, dissipated and radiated in electrical, electromagnetic, mechanical and acoustic forms.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

Digital and analogue modes describe forms of representation, not autonomous physical categories of energy. The theory is concerned with how energy transformations influence the structural relations of the pattern, and with how state, reserve, release and dissipation may introduce deviations.

Within listening language, energy may be associated with impact, authority, dynamics or apparent material quality. These outcomes do not depend solely on average power: they may involve timing, control, noise, compression and the relationship with the load.

5. MEASUREMENT, EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

Measurements must distinguish available energy, dissipated energy, stored energy and late contributions. In the case, for example, of a power amplifier, measurements into a purely resistive load allow controlled and repeatable characterisation of certain electrical properties. They provide a useful metrological basis, but are not sufficiently representative of behaviour with a real sound-radiation system, whose load presents frequency-dependent impedance, reactive components, back electromotive force, and dependencies on level, temperature and dynamic state.

Within the 'AURORA' framework, power supply, energy distribution, dynamic reserve, load control and structural damping are treated as coordinated elements. Separate power supplies, dual-mono architectures or dedicated solutions, where adopted, are design instruments directed towards preserving the pattern of the recording, but cannot individually be taken as absolute evidence of its preservation within the predefined limits.
