0. NARRATIVE FORMULATION

1. DEFINITION

The advanced mechanical domain is an interpretative designation within the Lexicon that brings together the study of the paths through which supports, structures, cabinets, suspensions, diaphragms, platters, tonearms and components may store, transmit or modulate energy. It does not constitute an additional formal domain of the structural vector.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

The designation does not ascribe a universal effect to mechanics, nor imply that every vibration is audible. It serves to identify couplings and states that may become structurally relevant in specific configurations. Structures belonging to the installation or environment must remain causally distinct from mechanisms intrinsic to the apparatus.

Effects may be described as colouration, rigidity, tails, instability or loss of articulation. Such terms do not automatically identify the mechanical path and require controls against electrical and acoustic variation.

Measurements include modal analysis, vibrometry, accelerometry, burst response, microphony and comparison among support conditions. Mechanical modifications must be isolated from changes in position, electrical contact or level.
