0. NARRATIVE FORMULATION

“The representation of the pattern becomes a pressure field and reaches the aural reference points.”

1. DEFINITION

The acoustic domain includes the mechanical-to-acoustic conversion and radiation intrinsic to the sound-radiation system, together with subsequent propagation through the controlled boundary conditions until sound pressures are formed at the two aural reference points. Reflections, diffraction, absorption and the reflected–diffuse field belong to the environmental transformation and must remain distinct from the system’s intrinsic radiation.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

The theory distinguishes the intrinsic radiation of the sound-radiation system from its interaction with the environment. The resulting field depends on transducers, cabinet, crossover, directivity, positioning, geometry, surfaces and listening point. The controlled environment forms part of the boundary conditions of the test.

Scene, depth, focus, scale and the relationship between source and environment emerge within the acoustic domain. A flat response at one point does not guarantee spatial stability or uniformity across the listening region.

5. MEASUREMENT, EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

Assessment requires multi-position, temporal, angular and, where pertinent, binaural measurements. Loudspeaker defects must be distinguished from environmental effects and the listening point must be documented. Electronic correction may be useful, but does not make causally different phenomena equivalent.

In sound-radiation-system projects consistent with the 'AURORA' framework, and under the associated installation conditions, transducers, acoustic loading, cabinet, crossover, directivity and environment are treated as a system. 7. OPERATIONAL SUMMARY

Acoustic domain = final physical domain of the chain before neuro-perceptual integration, jointly determined by loudspeaker, environment and geometry.
