0. NARRATIVE FORMULATION

“To preserve the organisation of relationships, not to transfer one and the same physical object unchanged.”

1. DEFINITION

Pattern conservation is the principle according to which the structural relationships encoded in a properly made stereophonic recording adopted as the reference are to be preserved, within the tolerances of the domain of validity, through the successive physical representations of the stereophonic electroacoustic reproduction chain.

2. POSITION WITHIN THE THEORY*

The physical domain and energetic state change along the chain. Conservation does not require absolute material or mathematical identity between input and output; it requires the resulting representation to retain sufficient structural isomorphism with the representation adopted as the reference. Any conclusion remains conditional upon the descriptors observed, the sensitivity of the instruments and the conditions of the test.

When preservation is sufficient, the neuro-perceptual system may have coherent information available from which to reconstruct apparent material quality, perceived generating gesture, dynamics, apparent source, distance, spatial organisation, movement and temporal continuity as mutually compatible aspects of a single plausible event. Listening language may describe this condition through terms such as presence, transparency or disappearance of the loudspeakers, without those terms constituting independent evidence. Presence denotes an integrated phenomenological outcome, not an independent physical attribute.

5. MEASUREMENT, EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

Pattern preservation must be supported by measurements and, where pertinent, perceptual tests proportionate to the conclusion. The absence of detected deviations does not automatically demonstrate preservation if the protocol is not sufficiently representative. A robust perceptual difference demonstrates non-equivalence, but requires a sufficiently grounded directional criterion to establish which condition better preserves the reference.

6. TRANSLATION WITHIN THE AURORA Electron Devices® TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC FRAMEWORK

The principles now formalised in the theory are consistent with design criteria historically integrated into 'AURORA' projects. Across sources, electronics, sound-radiation systems, interconnections and wiring, design is directed towards containing structurally relevant deviations throughout the chain and under the intended operating conditions. Successive technical refinements extend those conditions and make them more controllable without altering the continuity of the original design criterion.

7. OPERATIONAL SUMMARY

With the reference held constant and under admissible conditions, a configuration may be regarded as more faithful when sufficient and directionally grounded evidence supports the conclusion that it preserves the structural relationships to a greater extent, within the domain investigated and the limits of the protocol.
